Port Engineer
Miami based shipping company seeks Port Engineer to technically manage fleet of vessels.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive inspections of cargo ships to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Coordinate and oversee all preventative maintenance and repairs of cargo ships, including marine engines, electronics, communication, operating propulsion equipment, safety equipment, and any other regulatory compliance mandates regulated by US and foreign ports.
- Perform all necessary , audits, repairs and communicate with outside service providers to ensure timely completion of maintenance and repairs.
- Manage dry dock schedules and costs, coordinating and monitoring in-person cargo ship dry docks to ensure timely completion.
- Ensure compliance with IMO/USCG regulations and other relevant marine regulatory bodies.
- Oversee marine communication and electrical components to ensure proper functioning.
- Monitor vessel cargo abilities and stability, ensuring optimal and safe load distribution.
- Manage crew operations, ensuring proper training and compliance with safety standards.
- Maintain detailed records of vessel management, including maintenance logs, repair histories, and compliance documentation.
- Ensure ships meet all required safety and operational standards and are fully operational and in a safe condition to work.
- Work closely with vessel societies and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
- Ability to teach / mentor others and provide a viable succession.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual English / Spanish desired
- Certifications or training in relevant technical areas such as marine engineering or naval architecture.
- Experience with vessel societies and regulatory bodies.
- Expertise in marine diesel engines and support mechanical components.
- At least 5 years of experience working as a Port Engineer, particularly with container ships operating in the Caribbean and within the US.
- Strong technical background in marine mechanics, propulsion systems, and generation systems.
- In-depth knowledge of USCG regulations and compliance requirements.
- Proficient in marine communication and electrical systems.
- Understanding of vessel cargo capabilities, stability, and safety standards.
- Experience managing dry dock schedules and costs effectively.
- Excellent coordination and communication skills, especially with outside service providers and regulatory bodies.
- Proven ability to manage budgets for maintenance, repairs, and dry docks.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in maintaining compliance documentation and maintenance records.
